Who we are
Juniper Collective is an independent New Zealand guide to online casinos, pokies, crypto casinos and sports betting. We started in 2016 because Kiwi players deserved reviews written by people who actually deposit their own money, wait for the withdrawal, and report what really happened — not marketing copy dressed up as advice.
We are a small team based in Aotearoa. We are not a casino, we do not take bets, and we cannot access anyone's player account. Our job is simpler and more useful: to test the operators that accept New Zealand players and tell you which ones are worth your time, in plain language, with real NZD figures and real withdrawal times.
Our mission
New Zealand's online gambling market is unusual. It's legal to play at an offshore casino, but illegal to run one from inside the country — so every site a Kiwi can join is licensed overseas, in places like Malta, Curaçao or Anjouan. That leaves players sorting good operators from bad ones with very little help. From around 1 December 2026 the Department of Internal Affairs will begin licensing online casinos under a new regime, and we track that change closely. Until then, and after, our mission stays the same: cut through the noise so you can find a safe, fair site that pays out.
How we test operators
Every casino or sportsbook we recommend goes through the same hands-on process. Nothing gets a ranking on reputation alone.
- We deposit our own money. We fund a real account in NZD (or crypto) using the same methods you would — online bank transfer, card, or Bitcoin — and note the minimum deposit, any fees, and how long the deposit takes to land.
- We claim the bonus and read the terms. We record the wagering multiple, max-bet rule, game weighting and expiry, then check whether the headline offer is actually achievable or just a shop window.
- We play, then we withdraw. The real test is the cashout. We request a withdrawal, time how long it takes to clear, and flag any surprise verification hurdles or delays. A casino that takes your deposit in seconds but sits on your withdrawal for a week doesn't score well.
- We check safety. Valid licence, SSL encryption, audited RNGs, published responsible-gambling tools, and complaint history across player forums.
- We re-check every month. Bonus terms and payout speeds change often. We re-test every listed operator monthly and adjust the rankings when reality changes.
No pay-for-ranking, ever
This is the line we won't cross. An operator cannot buy a higher position on Juniper Collective. Our rankings are set by testing, not by commercial deals. We may earn a commission when a reader signs up through one of our links — that's how the site keeps the lights on — but it never changes the order of our lists or the verdict of a review. If a casino we earn from fails a withdrawal test, it drops. That independence is the only thing that makes a review worth reading.
Our editorial standards
- Specifics over spin. Real NZD amounts, real withdrawal windows, real bonus terms. If we can't verify a claim, we don't print it.
- Written by humans. Every review is written and fact-checked by a named member of our team, with a last-reviewed date you can see.
- Corrections in the open. If we get something wrong, we fix it and update the date. Operators change their terms constantly, so pages carry a freshness stamp.
- Responsible gambling first. We only recommend sites that offer deposit, loss and session limits plus self-exclusion, and we point every reader to free help — the Gambling Helpline NZ on 0800 654 655 — throughout the site.
Meet the team
Our reviews are the work of a named editorial team, led by Te Aroha Mitchell, our Lead Casino Analyst, who has reviewed casinos and sportsbooks for Kiwi players since 2016. You can read every writer's background, expertise and the categories they cover on our team page.
Why trust us
Plenty of "review" sites are thin lists of whichever casino pays them most, updated once and forgotten. We're the opposite: independent, hands-on, and honest about how we make money. We deposit real cash, we time the withdrawals, we name the writers, and we re-test monthly. When a site slips, we say so. That's the whole promise — and if we ever break it, the reviews stop being worth anything, so we don't.
