Pickering's Gin is based on an old Bombay recipe, handwritten on a fragment of paper dated 17 July 1947. This spectacularly smooth, ever popular, Classic Pickering's Gin (otherwise known as our Red Top), is based on the Original 1947 recipe, but with Angelica instead of Cinnamon for those who like a classic, crisp style of gin to go with today's sweeter tonics. Fresh, light and bold flavours of citrus and juniper give way to intense warming spice of cardamom, coriander seed and clove.
Matt and Marcus had been friends and business partners for years when, while working at Summerhall, they spotted the derelict dogs kennels from the small animal hospital that once stood in the middle of the old Royal (Dick) Veterinary School. What to do with it? As fate would have it, Marcus had recently inherited a gin recipe from a friend of his late father. Add to that their mutual penchant for a good gin, and the next step seemed obvious. They rolled up their sleeves and built a distillery. They tried, tested and experimented until they were experts. And so began the story of the Botanical Engineers.
